Speed2.exe startup problem

please help, everytime id click on NFSU2 i get this error "speed2.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience." i was able to play this game several times before but this time it comes up like this...ive been trying so desperately to look for an answer but i still cant find one, ive already tried reinstalling it but still the same...here are my pc specs

Pentuim IV 2.40

Geforce4 MX 440 with AGP8x

256 DDram

60 GB Maxtor

Windows XP PRO

and yes i bought the game...please help me...

do u have direct x9.0c installed??
if u install it and the problem persists, reinstall the game, but first, save ur games files so u dont lose anything.
