How to race on line with other players?

When in the main menu, there's a navigation for ONLINE. Just scroll thru and you'll see an ONLINE. Of course, you'll need to download the patch first if you wanna play online.

I didnt mean that!! I mean how will I know with who I am racing and is it free!!!
In NFSU1 I go on online icon in game and the computer open the page of EA- games??
WHY!!!!
