TECH TALK - ask your technical car questions
Re: TECH TALK - ask your technical car questions
Here's a random question on the current topic- If I somehow miraculously got a 911 Turbo, would it be easier to reach 700hp in the Turbo, or in a Skyline R34? I asking because I've always thought that boxer engines are harder to tune, and the R34 is a very popular tuning choise. So, which one is easier to tune to reach 700bhp?
oh snap
Re: TECH TALK - ask your technical car questions
Umm... firstly, the R34 is cheaper, parts are cheaper and more readily available in Australia. I think the boxers are bigger though, but don't know. Price: R34, Potential... possibly the Boxer, because of the larger capacity, and subies have put out 500kw before, which is around that figure.Striker94 wrote:Here's a random question on the current topic- If I somehow miraculously got a 911 Turbo, would it be easier to reach 700hp in the Turbo, or in a Skyline R34? Re: TECH TALK - ask your technical car questions
Its extremely expensive to get an Impreza near that figure, though. Price and ease in this one goes to the R34 hands down. You've probably picked one of two exceptions to the rule with that example, as the Supra and R34 both have ridiculously strong engines.baumaxx1 wrote: Umm... firstly, the R34 is cheaper, parts are cheaper and more readily available in Australia. Re: TECH TALK - ask your technical car questions
thats from wikipedia.Due to the strength of the stock engine, the 2JZ series has remained a popular import platform for modification.[citation needed] Stock engine hardware has been known to reliably withstand power levels in excess of 3 times the original power ratings.[citation needed] In drag racing, the Supra and similarly powered 2JZ cars have been quite competitive. Drag models of the Lexus GS, Toyota Celica, and Toyota Soarers have used the same engine.[citation needed]
Re: TECH TALK - ask your technical car questions
thanks a lot guys.
So, about the exception to the rule thing, does that mean that it would be harder to lest say, tune a S2000 or Evo to that much power?

Re: TECH TALK - ask your technical car questions
The S2000 motor is not designed to be boosted, so I don't think it could handle a lot more power.
The Evo motor would be much better, but you won't be able to wring out 1000 horses like you can from a 2JZ.
If you want a 2.0L 4cyl that can take a beating, look no further than the Toyota 3S.

Re: TECH TALK - ask your technical car questions
theres a 2 evo's in the UK running around 960hp one has over 1000
Re: TECH TALK - ask your technical car questions
I've seen Supras pushing 700hp on standard internals and only an after market clutch in the gearbox. They are known for being ridiculously over-engineered.

I'm suprised that Viper didn't get his own spammer custom rank well before Striker did.PSZeTa wrote:Wow, this is like a first timer. A spammer takes the grammar nazi role.

Re: TECH TALK - ask your technical car questions
In the last page of this thread, HALF of the posts are from you. Two didn't need to be made at all as they added nothing to the discussion, one is a wikipedia quote which could have been added on to a previous post, one which was on off-topic reply to someone criticizing your grammar, which is terrible for the record.
You remind me of Ralph Wigum. You randomly appear at innapropriate moments, seemingly answering a question that no-one posed, mention a badly spelt fact or fiction with terrible grammar and usually blinding innacuracy, then ignore whatever anyone else says and have a conversation with yourself.

Although, yes, I do make quite a few useless comments, I've generally tried to make some quality ones... It's just that I'm usually wrong...
ANYWAY, here's just a random question I just felt like asking-why are all american cars stereotyped as slow lumbering beasts with little to no steering capability? I mean, look at some on the newer performance vehicles-z06, S7, GT40 and so on.
Or is it just that 95% of the others ones ARE slow lumbering beasts?
@the stig-was it you who put the rank there in the first place? I sent you a PM and you never replied.

That's about right.Striker94 wrote:Or is it just that 95% of the others ones ARE slow lumbering beasts?
It's alright to be slow if the car is good in other areas, but (most) American cars are just lacking in all departments.

Fast, still can't corner. (Relatively speaking.)Striker94 wrote:...z06, S7, GT40...
Re: TECH TALK - ask your technical car questions
American sports cars seem to have a bad reputation when it comes to handling in general. But the Z06 seems to handle itself pretty well (based on reviews I've watched/read).
EDIT: Besides that Caddy in the "What car do you drive?" thread...
Hm, I'm having trouble thinking of any. Care to name a few?baumaxx1 wrote:FWD V8s... that's why.

Yep, the Z06 (IMO) is the best american car ever... (that includes the GT40 and Mustang...)Zero260 wrote:American sports cars seem to have a bad reputation when it comes to handling in general. But the Z06 seems to handle itself pretty well (based on reviews I've watched/read).
