Why is the computer so damned cheap?

I swear I've been playing this game for 2 days now, and I've advanced to the point where the computer is cheating to beat me
When I'm doing jumps the coast is clear but when the camera goes into the replay mode to show me from the front there ends up being a van or a truck there and I slam in the back of it.
I see the computer players go THROUGH other cars and don't even wreck. I was drafting behind a computer player and he went through a freakin bus and I slammed into it. WTF
Is it just me or is the computer this cheap with everyone?
