Actually, the Supra engine is a much better engine to start with and even to tune, because of it's strength and reliability.. I've even seen a Skyline engine bay with a Supra engine.TheStig wrote:Stockwise the Supra simply trashes the Ecplipse.
Tuned... same story. The 2JZ GTE engine of the Supra TT together with the RB26DETT engine from the GTR skylines one of the engines with the most potential you can get them to 800+ HP without much effort.
Kind of a weird comparison though.. Eclipse and Supra, that's like Mercedes-Benz A-Class vs BMW 5-series. I'd take the Supra anyday, just pop on some subtle rice eyelids to make the headlights a bit smaller.
Did a Supra even come out in '95? I thought it was only '97 the MkIIII was "out"?
I'm probably wrong
I'd have the Supra anyways. Looks better stock, whereas the Eclipse, looks, fugly stock.
Edit: Yeah my bad, apparently the MK4 was 1993-2002. Definately didnt know that, thought they stopped it earlier.
Actually aswell, forget the MK4, i'd take the MK3 Twin Turbo anyday.

The GSX Eclipse comes with the 4G63 engine, the same one used in Lancer Evos. Its also AWD like the Evo, and lighter. Unfortunately, its 'box isnt as strong, and is a common weakspot on DSMs.
As for which I prefer, well, it has to be the Supra. I respect DSMs immensely, and if you look up a racer known as 'Jesus', youll see why. At the end of the day though, it comes down to what is feasible. The Eclipse was only ever available in LHD, and for that reason alone, would be useless as a road-car here. Not to mention, tuning parts for the 4G63 are expensive here, and I could have a Supra running 10s before I could have an Eclipse running 12s for similar moneys. If I lived in the US though, it would be a different story...
