Holy crap, speaking of computers, it's taken 8 hours to defragment this 500GB hard drive, and it still isn't done?

Re: Just want to talk? Come here.
dern kids these days with their 500-gig drives and impatience. in the good old days it took five hours to defrag a ten-gig drive, 'cause that's all we had. also, dern goofy port formats. in my days we had USB, and USB WORKED GREAT!!!Carcrazy wrote:Holy crap, speaking of computers, it's taken 8 hours to defragment this 500GB hard drive, and it still isn't done?
*cough*
lol, I just had to pull out an old-man impression.
Really though, what's the access speed? It depends a lot on that. Also, again, I was somewhat serious about it being a 500gb drive and that being part of the reason. If the drive is 3/5ths full (300gb) and you've never defragmented it, of course it's going to take forever; if it's only 100GB full and you defrag it every month, then I dunno what the problem is.

Re: Just want to talk? Come here.
I've only had it for a month, maybe two... and it's about half-way full. It's set to defrag every Wed. morning, but I don't think it has been.
BTW: I remember when it used to take this long to format a 1 Gig drive... or compress it for that matter.
Hell, I've even gamed on a Commodore 64!
(And yes, it still works to date.)
*knock on wood*

And that's why I run windawz on an 80GB... and the 320 and 160 are for everything else. In fact... the 160 just gets wiped... the 320... move everything like movies music and pics to the 160... defrag... move it back to save time.

I am, I just never post on here anymore. I only read other people's posts and think of stuff to say but never bother to type anything....until now.
Re: Just want to talk? Come here.
That happened to me and it was a total pain in the @$$. Ok what I did was after failing multiple times with different editors and even Windows I realized that a small box was checked in the File Properties. So I selected all of the files, right clicked, went to Properties, and unchecked the "Read-Only" box. I was then able to edit the tags.baumaxx1 wrote:Yeah, well... I copied some old CDs I had back onto my comp from the zen... as they were ripped well before I had the 320 GB HDD. However, media player adds them, and I select them and go to advanced tag editor and I can't tag them, ulike tracks ripped from media player... despite the fact Gracenote tagged them in Creative media source... so, anyone know how to put id3 tags on a whole album? Or would my best bet be to rip them again tagged? I tried a program, but it didn't keep them.
If yours doesn't do that then I don't know what's wrong.

I'm hoping to buy an external hard drive soon for school. Flash drives get old after a while.
Oh man am I glad we had that storm last night... a day or two ago I threw my football on the roof by accident, (lol) and I was starting to think I was going to have to climb on the roof to get it.

And I have an external now, but don't think I'd use it at school... it's an IDE drive that used to be internal but I got a new mobo with less IDE. It's powered and bulky, lol.
