we have 2 comps in our household. one has a bal mose, one infra red. i prefer the infrared because it's easier to move around. and ball mouses get dusty inside.

yeah, infrared is the way to go. :D 8)

we had a ball mouse, but now that's not here anymore...my cousin has an infrared mouse that's wireless, so you can move it around anywhere you want. the only problem is: the mouse has to be close to the transmitter...and most of the time, if its like more than 3 feet away, the mouse doesnt work.

Optics all the way, no need for mousepads and doesn't gather dust.

Wow, your cousin's wireless mouse is bad. I've used a wireless desktop system (not my own) which had both keyboard and mouse. Worked fine from several meters distance.

The question is wrong. There are mouses that have a ball and uses the infrared.

Question would be

1. Optical or ball???
2. Infrared or wire mouse?

For sure the optical pwns ball.

About the other thing: some ppl prefer wireless (infrared) mouses, as me, cause you get more freedom of movement. But you need batteries and the mouse weight is bigger.

So others prefer optical and wire mouses, to get light mouses and dont have waste batteries.

My choice is: Optical + infrared.

BTW Im the only who thinks that this belongs in The Hardware? :P

I now use a laser mouse, since my 8 year old IBM mouse ball was getting kinda cracky. I don't think good quality mouses are worse than laser mouses, but since now we have laser, why not using it?

Ps: The Hardware section should fitr better for this than Off Topic. :P

i forgot to mention that my keyboard and mouse are wireless. came with the pc... ,my dad bought rechargable batteries which are better in the long run if you have a wireless set.. i have free electricity because i live in military housing so i dont have to worry about electric bills on charging batteries...lol

I don't think 206p understands what an infra-red mouse is. (as Sparco explained already)

I think that he means optical/laser mouse, and not infra-red. So, I voted for infra-red, because I have an optical mouse with a cord.

Infrared just works a hell of a lot better, hence my vote.
