"Coupe" is a very large category, my friend. I vote McLaren F1.

In all seriousness, though, I'd pick a Skyline GT-R... BNCR33 or a BMW M3 E36 Coupe. (I don't know why the E36, the E46 is better performance-wise but recently I've come to like the E36 M3 GT Coupe.)

How come Smoky Nagata has a 986hp GTR and his engine still runs. What about the 1000hp SP Power shop car that still runs.

Yes but how much strengthening was done? Because the 2JZ, arguably stronger than the RB26, can handle 600hp, give or take a few, at stock.

QFT. The RB26 block can handle 1000bhp but that's no biggie, as almost all high performance engines can take that kind of power, even N/A ones. The S50B32 and S54B32 will both take 1200bhp+ and are naturally aspirited, and the 2.5l E30 M3 Evo sport motor will take around 1000bhp on a standard block and it's a 4-banger.

Actually a 2JZ can (reportedly) take about 800hp on the standard rods, and over 1000hp on the crank. The block itself can take 1500hp easily.

High revs will destroy internals much more easily than high hp.

I've heard various figures banded around for the hp (and twist) that 2JZ rods can withstand. Everything from 500bhp to 1000 depending on who you speak to.

Audi RS2 pistons and rods can withstand a lot of horsepower, but the rods can't stand a lot of torque, which is an bumbum because the I5 20VT is naturally a very torquey engine. Problems especially come if you use older style thrust bearing turbochargers rather than ball-bearing ones, as all the torque comes in at 3500-4000rpm, just as the rods are starting to come under proper strain. Then BAM, bent a rod. Was lucky for it not to happen to me, but I ran my KKK26/27 at around 21psi up until I got new rods. Then all the way up to 32.

Just a random fact about Audi engines; The pistons in a Audi RS6 can move at 25m/s, similar to the speed of an F1 engine...

And get over how much a engine can handle. If any of you people ever built one, then you can go argueing about it, but for now, unless you get the exact blueprints/specifacations of a 1000+hp 2JZ with stock rods, quit yapping.

Correction, the piston in an RS4 can move at 25m/s- roughly the same as the E46 M3 or McLaren F1. The RS6 uses the 5.2L V10 from the S8 and S6, but with the added benifit of twin BorgWarner turbos. It's lower revving than the RS4 motor (7300rpm compared to 8250rpm) but much torquier.

Striker- I had plans in the pipeline for a 600bhp 2.5 stroked ABY turbo but in reality it never saw more than 410bhp, due to me buying a house and getting married instead. The "how much can an engine handle" topic is far more interesting than the original topic

Well, to be honest, why don't you people just create a new topic? I don't know ANYTHING at all on this subject, but still, I just wanted to know- why are some engine so good for customization? If they were only initially designed to have 200hp, why can they stand well over 500hp? Do you think that maybe tuning is what the designers had in mind all along?
