If you have windows XP you could always use the one that comes with it, "Windows Movie Maker." But it really depends on what you would like to do with the software and to get a free one try searching on download.com, they usually have freeware ones.

Did you try going to Start>All Programs>Accessories>Windows Movie Maker, if its not there go to Start>Search>All Files And Folders and type in Windows Movie Maker, and if you still cant find it go to download.com and search for video editing software and find a freeware one that does what you want it to do.

Windows Movie Maker 2.1 official download
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/down ... aker2.mspx

It's a good and easy-to-use program.
I've used it many times already. :)
