Although I'm not a fan of SOAD, I think they have reasonable talent and creativity. There are lots of signature changes and they can play their instruments quite well. I haven't heard Strapping Young Lad, but I wouldn't say the SOAD 'suck'.

There are certainly far worse bands out there . . .
