Sure it's a long time. Compared to an episode of Friends, that is.

My sis and her first boyfriend (now fiance) have been together for several years, and if things keep going the way they are now, they'll be together for the rest of their lives. Top that.

I believe that's why he said 'like', to emphasize that they weren't actually married.

Believe me Dizzi, being friends with ex's does not work immediately after splitting up.
If you want to be friends, give it plenty of time for you both to forget about the relationship and the friendship might flourish after that.

no it really doesnt, ive tried and it just does not work for some reason
maybe people are different there but here its a no go the troubled relationship is always in the back of your heads and they can never forget it. i still remeber my relationships that didnt turn out so well and those were over 4 years ago

I think it depends on the relationship. Out of my old ones, i'm only good friends with one of them.
Of the ones that we did the "lets be friends" thing. We were only kidding ourselves.
The rest of the old gf's have been actively forgotten.

Being friends with ex's can work, but only after a long time. I had a gf for about 8 months, and we broke up, didnt talk for about 6 months, and now we are like the best of friends again, and she gets along great with my new gf. So yeah, it can work sometimes. Just celebrated 12 months with my girlfriend, took her to Great Keppel Island for a week.

But it's all good, their loss!
