Need for Speed Returning to Roots

We have [url=http://www.nfsunlimited.net/news/view/17548]recently reported[/url] that the next Need for Speed game in the making will be developed by Criterion Software, the studio behind the Burnout series. There have been rumours that it will be a return to the roots, but with mixed information coming from EA on what the NFS roots could be we weren't completely sure on what direction the game will be heading.
From a [url=http://twitter.com/CrashAlex/status/2437489599]recent tweet[/url] from a Criterion developer it seems that the roots means the first Need for Speed game that premiered on 3DO in 1994.
