After announcing that Drag Mode is coming to Need For Speed: World "very soon", the dev. team has started to release some details about this new game mode before it goes live. Here's a recap of what was revealed so far. Don't forget to read the first 2 articles here and here for more info.
Unlike other racing modes in the game, like circuit or sprint, drag is going to be a multiplayer-only game mode. This means the player won't be able to play against the AI. Each race will allow a maximum of 6 drivers, however, certain events will only allow 2 or 4 drivers. Four drag events will be available when the mode is released, including the community's favourite drag spot: the bridge.
When joining a drag race, the player will be faced with a new and improved pre-race screen. The player can now choose the type of transmission (automatic or manual), and it is also possible to get a full 3D view of your opponent's car, including the HAT ratings (speed, acceleration, handling), and which performance parts are installed on that car.
When in the race, there will be a whole new HUD. Since shifting is very important in a drag race, that's the main focus of the new HUD. Getting a perfect start is vital too, so, like other game modes, the player must time the RPM so they are in the green zone for a perfect launch. When using automatic transmission, the player will always have a "good shift change" everytime. However, to be really quick, the player should get "perfect shift changes" everytime, and that is only possible when using a manual transmission. Left Shift will be used to gear up, while Left Ctrl will be used to gear down.

During the race, the car will keep in the current lane while moving forward, so no steering is required even when the track itself goes around a bend in the road. To change lanes, all the player has to do is move right or left to switch to the next available lane. This is very important to avoid the traffic cars. Also, the fact that there is a lane at the beginning of the race for every player doesn't mean there will be a lane for every player throughout the entire race. There is always the possibility that a certain llane will end and the player will be forced to change lanes or suffer the consequences.
Tomorrow's article will focus on the new Drag Skill Mods.
