A Computer virus which is causing chaos for millions around the globe
is now officially the worst ever.
Dubbed Sobig F, it is being spread by e-mail and is thought to infect 1
in 17 messages.
AOL claims to have stopped almost 12million copies of the virus, which is
contracted by opening the innocently labelled attachment it carries.
It then hijacks users' address books, sending itself to every address it finds.
Experts believe the entire Net is at risk. Graham Cluley, of anti-virus firm
Sophos, said: "It's slowly killing the Internet by creating vast numbers of
e-mails that clog everything up. We've never seen anything like this."
Sobig F, which has spread to 148 countries since appearing on monday,
also turns infected machines into relays for any message sent by it's creator.
Mikko Hypponen, of anti-virus firm F-Secure, believes it has been written
by a spammer looking to bypass junk mail filters. He said: "For once, we have a clear motive for a virus - money."
